NMK Electronics and AVIXA award CTS certification to GCC women
)
With support from Shure, Bose Professional, Barco Clickshare, and Microsoft, the event aimed to deliver both a discussion and action.
4% of women in the AV sector have received CTS certification, with 350 CTS-certified males in the GCC compared to 16 CTS-certified females in the GCC region. A gap that, at the current rate, would see parity between genders achieved in 135 years.
NMK Electronics partnered with AVIXA at an event held at the NMK experience centre in Al Quoz, where more than 65 women from the AV industry gathered. NMK and AVIXA awarded six CTS certifications to aspiring professionals.
The event focused on professional growth, as well as mental resilience, emotional intelligence, and confidence building, with workshops focused on leading with emotional intelligence for leadership skills, as well as talks on mental resilience and body confidence.
Stories were shared, including from Miriam Sablouni, a UAE-based audio engineer, who shared her experience as a woman navigating a field and role typically occupied by men and the strength, passion, and need for the industry to embrace talent.
Attendees were encouraged to use a pledge wall at the event, where participants and industry leaders could commit to actionable change through mentorship, advocacy, or by creating more opportunities for women in AV.
Ekta Puthran, director sales and regional marketing, Barco, commented: "The numbers don’t lie, the gap in CTS certification is holding women back. And here’s the truth: women in AV are just as capable, just as skilled, and just as deserving of opportunities. It is time to change the narrative." said – Ekta Puthran, Director Sales and Regional Marketing at Barco.
"We cannot afford to wait 135 years for gender parity—the time to act is now. Accelerating action means ensuring that women in AV & Tech have equal opportunities to thrive, lead, and shape the industry's future. The good news is, many men are already stepping up, advocating for inclusion, and driving change. Together, we can build a more balanced and progressive AV & Tech industry for all.”
