LG’s new OLED gaming display features a 480Hz refresh rate
LG Display says has successfully completed the development of its 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED display “leveraging the company's unique OLED technology, which allows each pixel to emit light independently without a backlight unit, to deliver an unprecedented 480Hz refresh rate, immersive QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution, and the fastest response time (0.03ms) of any panel on the market today.”
Only a little else around (yet) has that combination of resolution and sheer refresh rate, with other panels on the market needing to drop down in resolution to gain speed. And as LG Display primarily makes panels for other companies, it should appear in several places soon.
The company says that the display offers enhanced image quality through what it's dubbed 'META Technology,' which incorporates a 'Micro Lens Array (MLA)' to maximize organic light emission from the OLED panel and minimize external light reflections during darker scenes. It also reckons the panels emit the lowest level of blue light in the industry — approximately half the amount emitted by premium LCDs. This reduction in blue light minimizes eye fatigue and eliminates flickers.
The 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED display will launch during the first half of the year. Meanwhile, the company will unveil its entire lineup of Gaming OLED displays in sizes 27, 31.5, 34, 39, and 45 inches at the show. Perhaps most notably, the new 34- and 39-inch displays offer an ultra-wide (21:9) aspect ratio for immersive gaming, while the 31.5-inch panel supports a UHD (3840x2160) resolution that makes it suitable not only for gaming but also for office work and general content consumption.
